Overview

The Activity Counselor assists with program activities in the Advantage After-school program located in Wyandanch.  The Activity Counselor helps distribute snacks, set up, clean up, and when needed, lead afterschool enrichment activities. This individual will assists the Program Coordinator in implementing agency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Program Coordinator and Faculty Coordinator in carrying out activities relating to coordination of activities for students, distribute snacks according to policy, all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Lead recreational activities when needed to ensure program requirements of full activities are offered to students during hours of operation 1:30-4:30 M-F
  • Assist with marketing, publicizing and recruiting students for the after-school program.
  • Train and assist individuals in self-administration of medication.
  • Assist students in improving socialization skills.
  • Assist students in establishing vocational/educational goals.
  • Ensure safety of students.
  • Attend staff meeting, supervision and other agency meetings.
  • Relay individual and/ or program specific information to appropriate agency personnel.
  • Learn and adhere to all agency policies and procedures on agency personnel.
  • Accept and follow through on other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma preferred or GED/TASC completion.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, mature, with ability and enthusiasm to engage with adolescents.
