  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the START Resource Center Director and START Director/Associate Director, the START In-Home Therapeutic Coaching Team Leader is responsible for the supervision of the START In-Home Therapeutic Coaches for Suffolk County.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Functions:

    • Supervise operations of the Nassau County In-Home Therapeutic Coaching Services
    • On-call support provided to 7 days per week
    • Provide oversight of the START In-Home Therapeutic Coaches and track training requirements and other credentialing for all counselors
    • Work with the START coordinators and clinical director in all scheduling related to in-home supports utilization
    • Provide direct support to individuals receiving in-home supports (including assistance with ADL’s as needed)
    • Assist In-Home Therapeutic Coaches with scheduled activities and provide triage of issues as needed
    • Provide de-escalation and intervention services for individuals displaying emergency behavioral health concerns
    • Assist In-Home Therapeutic Coaches with development of and accomplishment of goals and objectives as outlined
    • Communicate with individuals’ legal guardians and support systems regarding the person’s care and any significant events
    • Communicate with the START clinical team regarding guest responses to interventions and what is learned about behaviors/signs/symptoms, setting events, triggers, and effective interventions

     

    Qualifications

    Education and Professional Experience:

    • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or other human service field
    • 3 years’ experience working with people who have IDD and mental health and/or behavioral health needs
    • Experience in programming for individuals with challenging behavior
    • Experience with expressive therapies (music therapy, art therapy, recreational therapy, occupational therapy, etc.) is preferred
    • Supervisory experience is preferred
    • Ability to complete the START coordinator certification process within 6-12 months of hiring
