Position: Direct Support Specialist - Behavioral
Reports To: Residence Program Supervisor
Revised: June 2022
This position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 during a single calendar week (Monday - Sunday)
Summary/Objective
The Direct Support Specialist (DSS) provides supervision and oversight to the individuals residing in specialized OPWDD IRA residences who demonstrate as High Risk. High Risk is defined as those individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system, or have the potential to become involved, and are at risk for reoffending while residing in a community based setting, without specialized supports and services in place. The DSS will provide support and services to these individuals based on person centered life plans, work collaboratively with the Direct Support Professionals and as a liaison to the clinical and management team members to address psychiatric and behavioral episodes. Further, the DSS will assist in ensuring behavioral support plans are followed and required documentation is completed as assigned. This team member will assist the Residence Supervisor in implementing agency policies and procedures.

This includes, but is not limited to: psychological evaluations, functional assessment, behavior support programs and strategies, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, case reviews and other interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, training and consultation with other team members. The BIS will work in collaboration with the Person and their circle of support to ensure the highest quality of clinical services in a manner that is consistent and aligned with agency mission and vision, and the philosophy of the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL).
